Music lovers, rejoice, for a new record store has just opened up in Southampton’s city centre, and it’s super cool.
You may have noticed a few new places opening up around town since we’ve come back from summer break, and Vinilo, a record store where you can chill out, listen to vinyl in store, and even order a coffee while you’re at it, is just one of these fresh faces. They’re also able to order records in, so if somehow you don’t find what you’re looking for, there’s no need to fret.
I popped into Vinilo to have a chat with Virginia, who co-owns the store. The main thing I was wondering was what exactly is it that seems to set Vinilo apart from other record stores?
“It’s a personal experience, being more of an independent store it’s more of a personal feeling, coming in and having a chat with us, having more time to look around. Everything in here is handpicked by us so we will know what we’re talking about if there’s anything you need to know.”
The store opened over the summer, just five weeks ago, and is located at 55 Queensway (just opposite Debenhams). Vinilo has already been gaining attention from the Southampton locals, having already hosted a listening party to celebrate the release of Liam Gallagher’s new album, As You Were. If you missed this, don’t worry; they have lots more events and listening parties in store for us!
Don’t know your David Bowie from your Billy Joel? No problem, why not check it out just for the ‘gram? The shop’s relaxed, trendy décor looks like it came straight out of a Tumblr page, making every last corner of the shop perfect for your Instagram photo needs.
