On Wednesday 6th December, Dr. Martens launched their highly anticipated new store with Southampton’s finest music acts providing a night of raucous celebration.

Support artist and singer/songwriter Sean McGowan warmed the crowd with an energetic folk-punk performance, playing to an audience eager to welcome him to the brand-new store.

We had a chat with Sean before the event.

Next up headline act and Southampton’s finest female-fronted math-pop four-piece Signals paid homage to Dr. Martens long-time commitment to music, with a performance that blended infectious pop music with jazz and indie overtones. Performing track after track of fresh and unique sounds, Signals held a captive audience and ensured a night to remember for Southampton’s local community.

Throughout Dr. Martens history, the brand has been adopted by diverse individuals, musicians, youth cultures and tribes, so it was only natural for the launch to be supportive of home-grown talent. A special attention-grabbing commission created by local artist Peter Lloyd was proudly displayed on a large-scale backboard and will remain a focal point within the store.

The Southampton store will also offer further community based events and meet-ups in the following weeks, working with a range of diverse individuals from the surrounding community. More details to be announced soon.
